Student
opportunities at CSIRO Plant Industry
Students at CSIRO Plant Industry are well prepared for continuing
scientific research and have the experience of working in another
research environment with exposure to industry and community groups.
Dr Peter Thrall and Dr Andrew Young in Canberra are two of the
many scientists at CSIRO Plant Industry who supervise students.
Some of their students who started with a summer studentship returned
to do either an honours or PhD studentship at CSIRO Plant Industry,
other students have gone on to work in environmental agencies,
universities and industry.
Students are considered a valuable asset to the research community
at CSIRO Plant Industry and are encouraged to publish their research.
Scientific papers published as a result of a student's research
bear CSIRO's and the university's name.
Universities may also benefit from students participating in studentships
at CSIRO Plant Industry as they may jointly supervise honours
and PhD students in projects of mutual interest.
This close collaboration with universities also allows students
to maintain their university connections.
For information on Summer Studentships for second and third year
science students, projects for honours students and a range of
PhD projects and scholarships, see the Plant
Industry student web page.
