Use by Client Browser

(a) Require Internet Explorer (use version 6.029 or later) or Mozilla FireFox (use version 2.0.03 or later)

(b) Require Windows XP Professional or Linux (use Suse version 10.1 or higher)

(c) Download Java JRE version 1.5 (requires 1_5_0_07 or higher).  Uninstall earlier versions and install the downloaded version.

(d) Ensure that the correct version of the Applet plugin has been successfully installed.  

• For Linux users, refer to Sun's instruction on manual installation of the plug-in (E.g. http://java.sun.com/javase/6/webnotes/install/jre/manual-plugin-install-linux.html).  To verify that the installed plugin is the first in the list of Java plugins, enter the command 'about:plugins' in the address bar of a Mozilla Firefox browser and hit the <enter> key. 
• For Windows users, check the Java version by opening the Java icon on the 'control-panel' (<start>,<settings>,<control-panel>) and click the 'about' button on the 'general' tab.

(e) Copy or save .java.policy  file to your home directory, to allow the applet access to local drive. Otherwise a 'X' will appear on the top left of the application.

•  For windows users, it is the directory which corresponds to your username in "Documents and Settings" diectory.  Click on this link to save file. 
• For linux users, it is your $HOME

(f) Do not block popups, otherwise the certain function will be prevented from executing properly, such as 'Query Phenotypes' under the 'Manage Phenotypes' menu.

(g) When you run the application for the first time, a window 'Warning Security' will pop up as the applet does not have a digital signature.  Tick  'Always trust content from this publisher' and click the 'run' button.  If this is not done, the application will not function properly and may stall.
